When I first decided I wanted to buy a home theater system, I knew that I wanted something with surround sound capability, with excellent bass quality, with crisp-sounding production, and with the capability to play DVDs and video games.

I searched through Circuit City for a few hours, checking out all the different systems, and I was all ready to buy a Samsung system, when one of the workers led me over to the Sony DAV-DX255 system. Immediately, it caught my eye as a sleek, classy looking system, and when I played the sample CD, I was blown away by the quality of sound, in comparison to all the other systems in its price range.

The Sony DAV-DX255 is by far the best compromise between great sound, great capability, and low price. The system ranges from $250 to $325, depending on where you buy it, but Circuit City offers it on the lower end of that scale, with a $30 rebate as well.

The system can stretch as far as to fill a room that is 20 x 20 ft, with crisp sound, that makes one feel as if he or she is standing in a recording studio. It comes with a fantastic remote that includes buttons for every option you could ever ask for. You can change the equalizer, set the dynamic bass boom, change functions between radio, DVD, and ipod or mp3 player, and you can also play, fast forward, or pause a DVD that is playing. The best part of the Sony DAV-DX255 is its small size, so it goes almost unnoticed in any room. The bass tower is the largest part of the system, and is only one foot tall and about 6 inches wide. For such small machinery, it produces one powerful sound.

The one thing to be careful of is that the system does not play exceptionally loud music. Its maximum setting is built in a way that it won’t allow the speakers to blow out, which is a great plus. But it also wouldn’t be a great system to play at a big party, or a large event in a dancehall or dinner hall. But for a small room, or a small outdoor gathering, this system works very well and will be perfect.

Additionally, the surround sound option on movies is a must. The DVD player built into the Sony DAV-DX255 is clutch as is, but the surround sound is amazing for any action movie, or movie with a great soundtrack. I personally love to watch my favorite movie, Gladiator, on the system, because it projects the amazing soundtrack and the battle scenes perfectly, giving the viewer the sense that they are right there in ancient Rome.

If you are looking to spend less than $350 on a great system that includes as many features and functions as you could want, I highly recommend the Sony DAV-DX255.
