We bought this DivX DVD Player as part of a package with our Philips 42″ Plasma TV, the Player looked at a glance rather small and thin. However it blended in with the set. It came with a cool wireless set of speakers which can be plugged in anywhere at the far side of the room.

When i actually played the DVD player, it had a rather easy to use menu. Setup was simply plug and play and i learnt the DVD remote could also be used with my VCR and also my Philips TV. So as you would expect it did please me (i dont need to keep handling four remotes).

The surround sound quality was impeccable, when i first used it, i found it to be an excellent home cinema experience. It was LOUD. Also i tried out many formats of DivX and MPEG videos that i already had, and they all worked. In some situations there would not be the right codec to play the disc. So i used the firmware updates from the Philips website. And Hey presto….

It has additional features such as radio and you can use the surround sound system without having to switch on the TV. You can use it as an MP3 and CD Player. It also allows you to put surround sound with your normal TV so if your watching a movie premier using terrestrial or digital TV. You will get the best experience.

This player is multi-regional, it accepts import PAL/NTSC format DVDs so you can watch those movies that are not available in your country.

Overall i would rate the DivX DVD Player 9 out of 10. There are so many good features to this product. The only problem is it takes slightly long to eject a CD/DVD as it first needs to load and then it ejects wheras others will eject straight after pressing it. However i will recommend this product, as this is something really insignificant (as it only takes two seconds to load).
