Ok to start off, ive read many reviews on this product saying that they (the reviewer) wanted clear sound but not window shaking sound. This is one of the reasons i was a bit scepticul on buying this product. I did want window shaking sound as well as clear sound. Boy was i happy on my purchase.
Before buying this product i had been comparing the panasonic SC-DK20 and the sony DAV-C450. So when the day came to make my choice i waltzed into the electrical store with my sound tester cd. firstly i chucked it in the SC-DK20. I got good sound and bass and i thought that this was the system. Of course i couldn’t make my judgement when i had only tessted 1 of the systems, so i chucked my cd into the SC-HT75 (this system). I was in for a shock. The sound was clear and the bass was very strong, even and high levels it didn’t distort one bit. Ok so now my heart was with the SC-HT75. Just one more system to go. Again i chucked my cd into the changer of the sony DAV-C450. Turned up the volume and……was very dissapointed. It didn’t have barely any bass at all. So i quickly got rid of the idea of buying that system. So i ended up buying the SC-HT75.
GETTING HOME:
So we loaded up the car with the box and off we went. When we arrived home i took the box into my bedroom and unwrapped it all. I asn’t able to set it up properly yet (suround) so i placed all the speakers on my desk, the subby under my desk and the reciever on a shelf. When everything was connected (didn’t take too long) i powered it up and threw in a cd, and it sounded awesome in my bedroom.(The room we tested it in, in the electrical store was about 3 times the size of my bedroom.)
SOUND:
This system has a total power output of 380Watts RMS. The sattelites sound crisp and clear and the subby sure does pack a punch(for the quality i would have paid up to $1500 Aus). One little annoying thing i found is that if i turn it up loud with a bassy song, my walls start to vibrate and make noise. But that can easily be fixed by adding better insulation in my walls or re-locating the subby.
PICTURE:
The inbuilt dvd player in this system works like a charm. Clear images and dazzling special effects. This system also has an S-Video output which improves the picture even more. I’ve heard that the overseas models (i live in Australia) also has a scart plug but the Australian model dosnt:(
EASE OF USE:
This unit is incredibly easy to use. If you want to do basic operations then all you have to do is press play, stop, pause, search, disc skip…..ect.
i havn’t really looked at much of the other features available but from the instructions they look quite easy.
OTHER FEATURES:
This system has a 5 disc dvd which is quite amazing in such a small unit. A bad thing is that it takes a good 30 seconds to switch a disc but it isn’t so bad unless you are using all disc random play.
This system has 3 aux imputs-AUX, VCR and TV. I have my portable minidisc recorder hooked up to AUX, my computer hooked up to VCR(just because it says VCR dosn’t mean you have to use it for VCR) and my TV imput is still open.
Another feature this system has is “Seat position”. With this feature, if you arn’t in the ideal position for suround sound, you can change the setting to make it sound like you are. Another feature is “Center Focus” which makes the center speaker sound like it’s coming out of the televison.
THE REMOTE:
The remote on this system has many features that are not available on the main unit (i’m scared of losing the remote). The remote is packed with buttons which is not really a bad thing. The remote has a slide down cover which hides most of the advanced buttons. The slide down cover does feel a bit flimsey but it shouldn’t break if treated right.
OVERALL:
At first i was thinking of buying a Hi-FI stereo. I thought that for the same price you would get 2 quality speakers as oposed to 6 cheap speakers of a suround system(quantity over quality) but this was not true. I got 6 extremely quality speakers aswell as a quality reciever. If you are looking for a stereo for a bedroom or small living room for around this price, you cannot beet this system.
