Audiophiles know the name Klipsch as high end speakers, and as many DVD systems skimp in this area, I chose this medium priced Samsung all-in-one DVD system. I was not disappointed. It boasts a 5 disc carousel, Progressive Scan, great sound and video quality, and many advanced features. It is a fine fit for a home theater system of ANY cost!
It is plenty loud enough for any use - 56 watts to each satellite speaker, 120 watts to the 10″ solid wood subwoofer. Audio enhancements include a Dolby Digital 5.1 Pro Logic II decoder (Music, Cinema, Pro Logic, Matrix, Stereo), DTS Digital Surround Sound, Dynamic Range Compression, DSP Digital Sound Processor EQ, Test Tones, Delay Timing, %26 fine tuning of individual speaker volumes.
Connections include composite RCA, S-Video, and Component Video. There are full connections for external components including Digital in.
The DVD case is solid metal and has a very attractive gun metal gray brushed metal front bezel with blue backlit display. The remote is large, intuitive, and also controls a TV. All functions are accessible from the remote.
If you’d rather skip cheap, plastic speakers thrown together for many budget systems and are looking for high end audio that’s fully powered for under $500, I feel this is a quality product, if a bit dated in 2006, and a great way to go. Whether listening to CDs or watching DVDs, TV or radio, this system definitely packs a solid punch, with plenty of options. - Paid $450 at Best Buy in 2004. -
*** Update July ‘06 - without warning the front panel display has cut out. Obviously more than a little tricky to use without it, though not impossible. Will update again if and when I get it fixed. ***
*** Update Sept ‘06 - I doubt any of this will be your experience but I’ll mention it anyway - without warning the display is working again. Lets hope it stays that way! ***
