This is the worst electronics product I have ever owned. It seemed like a bargain at first; a high end home theater system for just $500 through a special American Express discount offer. However, it quickly proved itself to be worth less than my $50 DVD player.

Within a little over a year of owning this machine, it suddenly and completely died without warning. Panasonic refused to repair it, saying it was out of warranty. I then turned to American Express, who demanded I haul the huge and heavy machine to their service center for an estimate with no guarantee that they would cover the repair costs. Ultimately, after it spent 6 inoperable months on top of my TV set, I decided to trash it.

To make matters worse, the subwoofer that comes with the home theater (which produced an outstanding sound), also must be trashed because it uses a completely obscure connector that is not compatible with any other home theater or audio device on the market. All I have left of this nightmare product now is 5 speakers that have nothing to connect to, and an 80 GB hard drive that might come in handy for my computer consulting business. Not what I bargained for.

The machine, while it worked, was decent but never spectacular. It was more like an unreliable personal computer than a home theater system. It took forever for it to warm up after being powered on, and would periodically freeze in the middle of a hard drive recording, requiring me to unplug and plug the power cord in to re-initialize it. It’s best assets were the speakers, which produced a smooth, crisp sound when the system actually worked.

All-in-all, this was a terrible experience, and I will never purchase another Panasonic product ever again.
