My wife and I bought this for our Christmas present. Five months later, after watching a couple DVDs a month, it would no longer read any DVDs or CDs. We called Panasonic, and they told us to take it in to their local certified repair shop. I took it in, and right as I walked to the door, the guy said he knew what the problem was because they had the same problem on a lot of the units, and he pointed to his back wall, which had a lot of this exact same model.
A *MONTH* later, after several phone calls back and forth, the repair people tell me that they can’t get the parts they need to fix this DVD player, and that I need to call Panasonic and ship it back to them. I call Panasonic, and they told me that their repair people were supposed to send it in for me, since this is obviously a warranty repair. I expected the repair people to just take care of this for me.
So my wife calls the repair company, TV Unlimited in Sunnyvale and tells them what Panasonic said. They said they didn’t want to deal with the shipping hassle, and hung up on my wife!!!
We called Panasonic and I explained to them that it is not right for me to have to pay $40 or so to ship a defective unit back to them because their local repair facility was too lazy to do it. So they said they would have an area supervisor contact me.
It has now been two months without our DVD player!!! I am *NEVER* going to buy a Panasonic product again if I can avoid it because of their poor quality and customer service!
