I purchased this system because I wanted an easy way to get a theater surround system. This particular unit was on sale as a closeout item, and since it also was open-box, it was pretty cheap.

It has support for dolby digital 5.1 surround sound. The unit came with 4 satellite 2-way speakers, 1 center channel (2 midrange, 1 tweeter), and 1 subwoofer with Philips‘ own WOOX technology (whatever that is).

As far as the sound quality goes, the little 2 way speakers can’t reproduce the audio as nice as my older Infinity speakers could (they broke after 12 years, hence the new system). The sub is amazing though. I didn’t think a 6″ sub could have such a powerful output. It does. It rocks the couch.

The unit has a whole bunch of inputs: Sat, Phono, Tuner, tape deck, DVD, VCR, and more that I am forgetting right now.

Now for the problem with this particular unit. About 1 hour into the dvd, the video output suddenly went out, as well as the surround outputs (center, back left, back right, and sub). I could still hear the L and R channels and when I moved the video cable to bypass the receiver, I got my picture back.

So, this unit went back. It could have been a problem with just this particular unit, especially since someone else had it in their house and was using it. But, I don’t know.
