I spent a good deal of time researching before I purchased this particular unit. I walked into the local Circuit City and asked the associate which unit was the best for the money. His opinion was the same as my research, it was the Onkyo HT-790. I actually bought the black one. For the money, it is BY FAR the best I could have bought. I have had it now for probably 6 months or so and it has never failed to amaze me. The highs are as clear as if you were in the room at the time of the recording. The mids standout like they should and the lower end is good. If I had to find something about this unit that I would change it would be the subwoofer. It can get muddy at times when the volume is high and there is a lot happening in the movie. With music it is everything I would want.

Installation was very easy. All the wires are color coordinated to help out. I actually ran mine under my house into the crawl space then through the floor at the location of the speakers. With the way my furniture sits it hides the wires well, giving a wireless look. It helps keep the wires out of the hands of my kids.

As far as sound quality, I have not found a movie yet that disappointed me. There are times I will be watching a movie and think a car pulled up outside. Kind of embarrassing, but it shows you how good it sounds and how life life the sounds are.

This definatly costs more then the all-in-one units, but in my opinion, it is well worth it. If you buy this you won’t be dissappointed.
