man o man…what a beautiful system Kenwood HTB 505 Theater System this is the first home theater system i have ever had and i love it...it started out in my living room...but it di...

I was looking to get into a budget Home Theater for under $600. I already had the T.V., DVD, and VCR, so what I needed was a good receiver and matched speakers. To be honest, I took the word of many people on the internet when I made this purchase. Sears didn’t even have this model on display, so I never even heard it before I set it up in my home.

Everything comes in it’s own box, packaged in one large box, that weighs in around 90 lbs. (so take that in to consideration when you go pick it up!) Packaging was first rate…nothing missing, all manuals included. They do include speaker wire, but I wouldn’t even consider using theirs. You can pick up decent speaker wire cheap now days.

Setup was a breeze as expected. The first thing I noticed though, is that the receiver doesn’t have a “Tape 2 Monitor”, which is what I used on my old receiver to hook up my EQ to. Bummer…not sure how to get around that one yet. The reciever has a menu system to get to the “bass”, and “treble” settings, along with the speaker set up settings.

Overall performance is good, not exceptional. I must say, I am used to the speakers that I had in the room before hand, and they had more of a higher pitch to them, and I guess I got used to that sound over the years. I’m now getting used to the speakers, and I do appreciate the more neutral sound over the (over-hyped) Accustimass speakers that I had. The subwoofer is powerful, yet not overly so. It can rattle the pictures off the wall if put to task! It is advertised as a 100 Watt sub, but in reality, it is a 120 Watt sub….pleasant suprise.

I love the matched speaker surround sound. You really do get fully engulfed in the movies.

I hate that it doesn’t have the “Tape 2 Monitor”. I also wish it had dials for Bass and Treble.
