The Dream System will wake you up. Sony DAV C450 Theater System I was looking for a cheap yet good quality Home Theater System to go with my Sony Wega Flat screen. My budget was...

I’ve had my unit about 6 weeks and like it more the more I use it.

Setup was VERY easy, thanks to the color-coded speaker wires and setup poster. I originally thought that they’d left out any A/V cables, but it turned out I’d set them aside and missed them! includes 2 heavy-duty A/V cables and a beefy S-Video cable - impressive. I just set up the unit for a second time and found the good cables, which let me dump the crummy coax cables I’d been using.

I have this connected to a DirecTV/TiVo unit (satellite and digital VCR) and the multitude of connection options available meant I could wire it up for total flexibility. Now if only my TV took a second S-Video input… [sigh]

Small tip: You’ll want to set this unit close to eye level to insert and retrieve discs.

Other Pros:

It’s really easy to play a CD or DVD. It’s a 5-disc unit, so there are 5 pairs of buttons on the front, each pair being Open or Play. So to load a disc and play, you just push one of the five Open buttons, load your disc, then hit that Play button! Adjust the volume dial and it’s playing. No sweat to show your non-technical spouse or kid how to do it!

The buttons on the unit are just the right number for dropping in a disc, playing it, adjusting the volume, change to tuner or audio inputs and sound field. Not too many, not too few.

Sound quality is good, to my untrained ears.

Other Cons:

In my mind, the big downside to this unit is the remote control, which has about 50 buttons, most of them tiny. Hello! Has anyone heard of building in on-screen menus???

The unit is rated at 500 watts, but that’s bull. You can fill a good-sized living room with sound just fine, but my 20-year-old 25 watt stereo can kick this units butt when it comes to cranking out sound. Yes, I know there are 6 speakers to drive with this, but the rating on this is bogus.

As other reviewers said, the changer is very noisy and slow. But I haven’t had any problems with it, as I’d seen others mentions.
