I traded in a very bad LG system (LG-LH-E9674) for this Sony system at Best Buy due to numerous problems.

Out of the box the sony system is very easy to set up and the on screen set up procedure is awesome. The wires are proprietary but enough wire was provided to set up the system in my condo.

The system is very user friendly and it hooked up easily with my HD tv with the HDMI connector wire (sold separately). The greatest asset of the system is that it comes with a microphone that you connect to the system that you place in the center of the listening area. You then go through the equilibration phase of the system where it measures distances through all of the 5 speakers and automatically adjusts for placement. This can be done manually as well but the automatic system gave me robust sound and actually filled the room.

We played a DVD on the system and were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the picture and the surround sound effects. Stopping the demonstration mode on the machine was not as intuitive as it should be but after referring to the manual we were able to cut off this annoying flashing of lights when the system was off. There are multiple configurations for the system that really sound good. Bass sound is tight and with the booster sound on it can really shake up the living room. There is a front loader for the DVDs and for the CDs and these take a little time to load and a little time to change which can be a drawback. I would prefer a slide out system but this system is not bad. I do not like that the remote control does not support my Vizio HDTV so I now have to use 3 different remotes- one for the satellite, one for the TV and finally one for the Sony system. I am getting the HDTV satellite system installed next week and maybe this will eliminate at least one of the controllers that I am using.

The price for the Sony system is comparable to the others, I believe it is actually well worth the $500 dollars that we ended up paying for the system. I haven’t had any problems with this system so far which is more than I can say about the LG system coming out of the box with problems.
