I have been pleased with my Panasonic Home Theater System until this past weekend. I enjoy the clear sound and design of the receiver. The sound output is above average and for the price, this would make a great theater system. Some of the reasons I bought this system over others was based on the DVD player. The DVD player can play DVDs, CDs, CD-R, mp3 format, and wma format files. Unfortunately, there is a large problem that overrides any positive aspects of the DVD player that I found out about this past weekend.

I have had my system for nearly 2 years. This past weekend, I was finally playing mp3 disks when the DVD player had “H07″ displayed after attempting to read the next disk. I looked this up in the owner’s manual and attempted to use their suggestions. I called Panasonic but could not reach someone within 1/2 an hour so I started to investigate on the internet. I found out that “H07″ is a common display for Panasonic DVD players. The problem seems to be related to the motor; specifically, the motor on the DVD player overheats and causes this error message. I finally contacted Panasonic and found out that I could send in my DVD player for a refurbished model. Unfortunately, Panasonic has not corrected the problem. In fact, they have been aware of the problem and the “nameless” representative that I talked to was rather hesitant to say that it was a common complaint.

DO NOT buy this product if you want it for the DVD player. I enjoyed the use of it for nearly 2 years but the replacement costs will add up for the next year to the point where it will cost less to buy a new DVD player. I still enjoy the receiver but I am really, really disappointed with the fact that I spent a lot of time trying to find a good home theater system and the DVD player is faulty - and the company could care less about this problem. I would suggest buying the receiver and speakers separate and buying another multi-disk DVD player. If you know of a good multi-disk DVD player that can handle mp3 and wma files, please let me know.

Prior to this weekend, I would have written a glowing review for this product. If you check amazon.com and other retailers, you will find that Panasonic DVD players display the “H07″ code after the warranty expires. Given my experience with Panasonic, I would highly recommend NOT buying this product.
