The Sony Compact AV System model DAV-S300 is an all-in-one CD/DVD player, AF/FM tuner, and surround sound system. Setting up the system is quite easy, and you can be watching your favorite DVDs in no time at all. However, this system isn’t the best solution for someone who wants an outstanding DVD player and an outstanding surround sound system.

While the DVD player is good, it won’t read CD-Rs. With many people these days downloading music and burning their own CDs, this isn’t a good machine for them to have. It will, however, read music burned onto a CD-RW.

The sound is pretty good, but you’ll get much better sound out of a stand-alone unit with bigger speakers. But you’ll also pay a lot more. The preset effects (live house, jazz hall, etc.) are nice, but most surround sound systems have these settings.

The layout of the remote is good, and the on-screen menus are easy to navigate.
