Have owned quite a few HTIB systems. I have also tried buying separate components and matching them myself.

This HT-S780 7.1 is the best I’ve ever heard.

Bought it on sale after Thanksgiving. Sure, it doesn’t come with a DVD player, but the sound more than makes up for it.

Power output is great. At 100watts/1kHz, it is not the most powerful, but it sounds very strong. I never hear any distortion. Volume control level is from 0-79. That is very useful. You can adjust the sound in fine increments, especially useful at night. Some systems, like the Panasonics, have volume levels that jump in 3dB increments, so it’s sometimes difficult to just tweak the sound slightly.

Real tone controls. Bass at 50hz and treble at 20kHz, I think. Much more useful than preset eq curves that supposedly represent “rock”, “jazz” etc. Those preset curves are ridiculous. Your speakers, your set-up and your room acoustics may call for drastically different settings than those unchangeable preset eq curves. I play this system at it’s FLAT settings. The sound is so smooth, it doesn’t need any alterations. Besides, at the flat setting, one can enjoy the most sound, especially in the critical midrange area.

Bass is full and deep. Boom is kept to a bare minimum. A kettle drum sounds like a kettle drum, deep and tight. The floor will rattle momentarily but the bass will not linger and muffle the music.

The front speakers and center speakers are higher-grade types. They utilize rubber-rolled suspended cones with soft “phase-plug” shaped domes for the midwoofers and real soft-domed tweeters. Inside these speakers is actual sound absorbing material as it should be to reduce cabinet resonance and distortion.

Rear and back speakers are a little better than average. They are in real wood cabinets, which always means better sound and more natural tones. I never hear them become distorted.

7.1 sound. When set to Pro-Logic IIx, you can turn almost any source, even your VCR into simulated 7.1 sound, and it works! Sounds natural. Incredible.

DD-EX and DTS-ES. Play a movie in one of these modes and be prepared to be blasted away. It’s the best sounding system I’ve ever owned.

7.1 is easier to set up than 6.1. Why? Because with a 6.1 system, you have to place a rear center speaker behind you, which is hard to do in many living rooms. With 7.1, you place a rear speaker behind you on both your right and left sides, so you can keep them on the walls and keep wires showing to a minimum.

A ton of jacks in the jack pack. Hook up practically anything you want.

DSP modes. Sound more natural than some I’ve heard. Some DSP modes tend to sound synthesized and ruin the natural sound of the music or movie soundtrack.

Adjustable subwoofer levels and crossover points as well as an adjustable volume level on the subwoofer itself make fine adjustments a definite reality. You will be able to fine tune this system to your liking.

The midrange is one of the best features of this system. voice range for tv, movies, etc is clear and distinct. Many HTIB systems have tiny center and front speakers which cannot deliver the lower midrange nor the upper bass range of audio, therefore they give the listener a feeling of a hole in the music or movie soundtrack. Adjustments in such systems cannot compensate for the missing or subdued audio, thus making the system seem lacking. And most of these poorly made systems are about the same price as this system.

I would recommend this system to anyone. Honestly, I would advise the potential buyer to consider this system before trying to put together separates that would most likely cost 2 or 3 times as much. This system is that good. I am an fan from now on. Their product really is a notch or more above the rest.
