I have been looking for a mid priced home theatre system for a pretty long time, shopping everywhere from Sams Club to Walmart to Target. Everywhere I looked had this system for $500. I was going to settle for a cheaper model of Philips or Panasonic but a great opportunity came across. I had a relative that worked at Bestbuy who managed to get me this system under an employee discount so that made it worth while.

When I brought this system home, I was very surprised to find out that it’s very easy to set up. All the cables needed are supplied in the box but if you want to upgrade the picture quality you’ll have to buy an S-Video connector or better yet a component video connection. There wasn’t much programming needed once the system was hooked up, although the manual’s very thick and I still haven’t found the time to mess with it yet. The sound is very good as it is. I also liked the fact that the DVD player and the receiver came in separate units, unlike most home theatre systems that combine them both into one unit. This system also has a very nice “silvery” finish to it.

The receiver includes Dolby Digital® and DTS® decoding for digital sources like DVD, plus Dolby Pro Logic™ decoding, which delivers multichannel playback from VHS and broadcast TV. 80 watts x 5 drives the satellite speakers with authority. And the back panel boasts plenty of inputs — both analog and digital — so it’s easy to hook up other audio and A/V components. Another good thing is the DVD player plays almost all files including VideoCD, MP3, DVD, CD and many others. The ones that impressed me most was the fact that it played VCD and MP3, because not many players play these 2 formats.
