A True Dream System No more glitches! Sony DAV C770 Theater System

Sony DAV C770 DVD Dream System Sony DAV C770 Theater System I am somewhat disappointed with my DAV-C770’s DVD play back. I have exchanged it once due to the DVD freezing ...

They don’t call it a dream system for nothin’. Sony DAV C770 Theater System When I first started looking at a home theater system, I checked out all major companies, including Pioneer, Sony,...

When we decided to get a for our living room, we looked long and hard into many different brands and styles. After some deliberations, we set our eyes on . Their products seemed to be as well equipped to do the job just as much as a system or any other A/V system while still maintaining a compact size overall.

The first release of this product had one or two glitches built into it - mainly the subtitle issue. Thankfully, realized the fault and corrected it. Our (Update Model) runs flawlessly and you will probably be hard pressed to find a DAV-C770 in retail stores. I had to drive 75 miles to pick mine up!

After taking the time to get the wires where we wanted them, setup was a breeze. place a color coded connector on each cable so it is completely idiot-proof. The most confusing part was configuring the system for the room dimensions (not mandatory but is does tweak the sound for optimum performance). Operation is one-step too. All the buttons are on the remote and you can complete all functions using it. It also has a luminescent backing so if you leave it under a lamp for a few minutes before starting a movie, it will remain “lit” a little while thereafter.

If all you use the DAV-C770 for is to view DVDs then you will provide yourself with an unbelievable experience. We use the system to provide TV/VCR audio and we also play our own MP3 CDs on it. With this system’s new ProLogic II decoding, it can produce 5.1 channel (surround) sound from a 2 channel (stereo) source. It does this rather well too! Other than that there are many simulated sound types. Some to sound like famous theaters others to make ball games seem even more realistic, adding echo and other effects. It is truly a work of technological genius. This system also opened up a new way for us to listen to music, SACD or Super Audio CD. These are basically surround sound versions of your favorite music CDs - truly marvelous…

The speakers themselves are identical to eachother and are of a “two-way” design (a first for the Dream Systems - this just adds to the overall quality of the sound). They are all molded from some metal (guessing aluminum??) and are about a 4 inch cube. The subwoofer is quite a decent size, about a foot tall and 9 inches square.

I am no professional in this field but I’d like to say just how good these speakers sound. After following the tweaking instructions, they produce sound which is almost -like in nature - quite impressive - and for a quarter of the price. The satellite speakers apply enough of the high sounds and the sub comes in just strong enough with the bass. You can adjust the sub but it works just great as it is on default settings. Overall, it’s so good, I use it when watching anything on TV.

The only real gripe I have is this system’s sensitivity to scratched DVDs. I had one DVD which played fine in my laptop but did skip repeatedly in the DAV-C770. After getting the DVD professionally buffed, it plays fine. Just watch out for the scratches I guess.

If you go to a store, remember one thing, these systems are usually set up on steel shelves and really do not demonstrate a systems abilities at all! Take it from me, if you are looking for a mid-range home theater system, the DAV-C770 should be just perfect for anyone.

UPDATE: Today I actually got the subtitles to stick on! I was playing with the multiple language audio on a DVD and they got stuck on Spanish subtitles. A little shocked, I ejected the disk, re-inserted and all was fine.
